About 6 months ago, same kind of spokesman came on and said, oh we dont have to worry at present..... because usage has dropped presented his figures and said "Melbourne has plenty of water... at least 2 years worth" GREAT !!!

Talk about spin doctoring.

Plus the Vic Government is very reluctant to take people of off 3a restrictions, because at level 4 business gets affected, and people start to panic.

Yes so go to Canada eh
If we run out of water we will just have to drink beer then, or maybe the entire population of OZ can move to the UK as asylum seekers escaping the drought.

Brisbane's water restrictions were all over the place. Even at level 6, which I think was broadly equivalent to Melbourne's 3a......people were STILL allowed to top up existing swimming pools with hoses for a few hours a week, even though the restrictions for some businesses were fairly severe.

I had a pool at the time and even as a pool owner thought that was ridiculous. Talk about getting your priorities wrong!

Probably because most politicans and wealthy people have pools in the backyard they won't restrict the water use of them. The wealthier suburbs seem to have the most backyard pools.

Well funny you should say that because the Brisbane Courier Mail did run a story about the head of Queensland Water Commision, who was building a huge pool in her backyard at the height of the situation.

http://www.news.com.au/couriermail/s...89-952,00.html

New pools couldn't be filled from town water supplies though and if you wanted to fill a new pool you had to tanker water in from a non drought affected area, possibly you still do.

Yes l would say around 90% of senior poiticans in OZ would live in a large house in a posh suburb with a large backyard and large swimming pool so theres no way they are going to pass a law restricting them from using their own swimming pools.

this is my opinion I could be wrong, all are welcom to share their opinion.
Not only could you be wrong, but you are wrong. I'm Canadian and there is no way I could just go live in the US with no paperwork. Not under NAFTA or any other legal way.

I think what you really meant is student doctors - qualified doctors seeking a masters degree or a permission to practise in Canada ( I think you have to take a test for that ? )
Not true. I worked at major teaching hospitals in Southern Ontario and can verify that it is not easy for foreign trained doctors to practice in Ontario. There are rigerous tests, both written and practicle as well as IELTS. Not just for students, but ALL foreign trained doctors.

In some areas, yes, it's a dry cold. The prairies are dryer than the east or west coast. Southern Ontario with all the lakes is also a very damp cold.

You're joking, right? Canada has produced stars such as Jim Carrey, William Shatner, Leonard Nemoy, Michael J Fox, Leslie Neilson, Pamela Anderson, John Candy, Dan Aykroyd, Mike Myers and Keeanu Reeves. Directors such as Norman Jewison, David Cronenberg, James Cameron (Titanic, etc), Denys Archand, Lorne Michaels (ever heard of Saturday Night Live?) Well i grew up in NZ and moved to Calgary, Canada which no offence if you like Canada but that is like moving from paradise to the middle of the sahara in terms of greenery/water/landscape, etc. I do like BC, however and haven't been east of ontario so can't comment there.

Calgary is damn ugly tho, no getting around that.

Then you can't say Canada is ugly. You have not seen the vast majority of the country. Perhaps the area where you live is not the nicest, however there are some areas of New Zealand which left a lot to be desired for me, too.

My god this post is childish. People, both countries appeal to different people for different reasons. Its all about perception. Yes there's more sunshine in OZ and more snow in Canada. Sunshine, however, does not pay the bills. I moved to Vancouver from Miami and the weather was better in Miami. I am way happier in Vancouver than I ever was in Miami. Vancouver for the record is a breathtakingly beautiful city and BC is breathtaking. And we only typically get about 2 weeks of snow a year for the record, lots of rain though in the winter, which is snow on the slopes half hour out of the city.

And talking about culture and Croc Dundee (at least Rolf Harris wasn\t mentioned) and William SHATNER in the same sentence..... well all i can say is beam me up Scottie.

Really?

I think minimum wage in most Australian states is higher then most Canadian provinces.

Ontario just increased their minimum wage to about $8.50; for most of the last 6 years it was about $6.85 hour. That's not enough to even rent a basement apartment, let alone have any sort of lifestyle.

As a foreign trained doctor, Canada is one of the most difficult places to work in.

To get to work in Canada you essentially have two choice and that depends on whether you are a GP or a Specialist.

If you're a Specialist and were trained in certain countries that are recognised by the CPSC then you can write their fellowship exams to work in your area of speciality. But you will still need MCCEE, QE1, QE2 + your fellowship exam before you are fully licensed.
http://rcpsc.medical.org/residency/c...mg_page2_e.php

GP is different; you can work in certain provinces without any exams (though you will still need to complete them within 7 years), but you can't work in Ontario until you are a member of the CFPC.

The second option is to get a "match" through CaRMS. That match rate varies, but it's traditionally between 5-15% for GPs!!! This is in a country with a dire shortage of GPs. It's virtually impossible to get other specialties as there are usually enough Canadian graduates to fill the spots. Check out the stats at www.carms.ca

Australia basically allows people trained in Commonwealth countries to start working in their hospitals. Up until recently you only needed to have graduated, but now they are requiring at least a pass in the part 1 of the AMC. That match rate for foreign trained doctors in GP for example is about 98% in Oz.

oh boy. the australian water scenario seem very scary,
Throughout human evolution process, mankind has made water the main consideration for settlement, Believe me still that should be one of the main consideration although most people do not realized this until....

Countries like saudi arabia with a population of 20 million is fully dependent on desalinated water, hence as long as there is a sea around, water may be expensive but should'nt be a life threatening issue,
