Default Australian University

a curiosity:

being the australian university so expensive.
what happen to the poor family when they do not have money to send children to the university.
are there any grant for the children from the government?
thank you

No grants for most people, but students can defer paying their fees until they have finished uni and are earning above a certain amount.

The fee deferment is only available to local students (not students from overseas) but they can certainly leave the country before paying the debt back, if they want to. The government doesn't stop people from travelling. The debt will just wait until they come back!

actually if you work out the figures for course fees etc then you will probably find that studying at an australian uni is not much more than a uk uni.

The main difference is that living in the uk you get your student loan to pay your fees etc (and you pay back later when you are earning) whereas in oz as a visa holder you do not qualify for the equivalent loan so you have to pay 'up front'.

Yes, as a pr visa holder you would have to pay all fees up front. Only as a citizen can you defer your fees and pay them later out of your salary.

However in cases of genuine hardship most universities can offer bursaries and scholarships.

there are also scholarships available to help 'poor' families depending on your status, check out some general info for this uni and contact the uni you are interested in:

good luck!

NO, I am italian, i come from another university system.
you do not have to pay so much. just 1000 euros per year.

I was just thinking what i wrote, nothing else, I wanted to know how the government protect itself from fraud. that's all!

none double sense!

OK. No offence intended.

If you are an international student, you pay as you go.

If you have PR then you can study at a university in Australia the same as a citizen. If you get into a HECS course then, as mentioned previously, you defer paying off your fees until after you graduate and start earning a certain amount of money (in Australia). Some courses are full fee paying so if you took one of those you would, of course, have to pay full fees which can cost up to $100K or more for a course like Medicine.

My son started at uni in March this year, as we only have PR and not citizenship we had to pay up front - NO Hecs available!!!!!!! He is doing BA Arts in fine art, visual media. Costs about $6K per year - hope this helps.

Looks like they have changed it then. PR's used to get treated the same as citizens.
