Default Australian Travellers Cheques

Hi

Going on holiday to Brisbane in February and just wondered if you can get Aussie Travellers cheques that work the same as the ones in the States ie you use them as cash.

Cheers

Do they still have travellers cheques? 99.9% of businesses won't accept any types of cheques, especially when made out to cash (forget it), unless prior arrangements have been made. Plastic (ie Mastercard, VISA) and ready cash are preferred over cheques.

hi we brought them over with us only because we went to singapore for five days and tookcash there then came to au with as much cash as we could bring but brought most of it over in travellers cos its a safer way of carrying it .ill agree though not many places want to know when it comes to cashing it in but wasnt really a problem for us as we opened a bank account and paid it all in there.
godd luck

Hi Haggisman,

We used Aus travellers cheques on our rekkie in November. We only really used them as cash to pay entry to the theme parks. Mostly we just went to westpac bank and changed them into cash. We were not charged any fees for doing this.

Use credit card. They mostly charge a 2.75% currency exchange addition, but two don't: Nationwide and one other. If you have time get a Nationwide card and save the 2.75%!

Thant is good to hear as I was told that there was an $8 fee per transaction to cash them. I will check out westpac as my parents are over in a few weeks and want to bring Travellers Cheques with them.
