Australian sponsership
Hi all,
My family and I are looking to move out to Australia specifically the brisbane / Goldcoast area we have children of 1 and 2
After initially looking into our visas despite alot of experience in Construction, mainly roofing we have been informed we require a sponsership to gain achess
Has anyone been through this or have any advice??
I have 20 years experience in metal and flat roofing, working now as a senior contracts manager and am qualified upto nvq6 with all relevant health and safety. I am prepared to take any level of job to make this work
Any advice will be appreciated
Thanks all

And? Stop talking to agencies and start looking at the DIBP site. Then look at the skills assessing body's site. Is roofer on the SOL or CSOL?

Some occupations require sponsorship, but this might be state government sponsorship. If it were true that your only chance was employer sponsorship well then you might as well just forget about it as very few people can secure this, particularly in trade occupations.
Have you looked at the SOL and CSOL and identified an occupation that you would slot into. Roof tiler is in there but you have mentioned that you are doing something else now and you would need to find an occupation that you are currently in or have recent experience in, something you left ten years ago is unlikely to work.
Roof tiler requires sponsorship and currently Tasmania and South Australia state governments are sponsoring. If roof tiler is your current occupation you should check to see if you can pass skills assessment, have enough points and csn meet any state sponsorship criteria.

Don't get bogged down with a job / profession title, remember your intention is to get a visa. For instance if you have the skills or a roof tiler, have previously worked or trained as a roof tiler and can prove it, then don't worry that the occupation name. Better to get a Visa as 'roof tiler' than not get one as an 'industrial roof project manager'.
I was an Electrical/Electronics Engineer specialising in Television and Radio Studio installations, but got my visa as an 'Electrical Fitter' based on my original trade quals. It might be regarded as a lowly title in the scheme of things, but it was the key to the door.
Take a look at the occupations on the SOL and CSOL, and if the cap fits - wear it. Once you are in Australia you can apply for and get work as what ever you like - its not linked to your visa. ( so long as you honour the terms of your sponsorship initially, if that the path you take. )

Re: Australian sponsership
Good advice. Job titles can also be lost somewhat in translation too - my job for example gets called all kinds of different things (even just in the UK, let alone abroad).
It's the skills and being able to prove the extent of that skill that matters.
I got sponsored so I can only talk about my own experience, but my sponsorship got approved about 4 days before my visa approval came through.
Lots of documents to complete and send over and it took about 6 weeks. Fairly painless I thought though to be honest.
Expensive if you're paying for it yourself though (I didn't).

Just apply for independent skilled migration. If you have the qualifications that are on the the skilled list then a sponsor is irrelevant
It can be pretty expensive and time consuming to apply but would be worth it as you would not be tied to an employer and could do pretty much what you damn well pleased when you arrive
Good luck
