Default australian school terms

Hello all,
could you help with this one please- when does the Australian school year start and how does it affect kids with birthdays in sept and january, I have a son( birthday in sept) who would be starting year 10 next Sept ie starting his 2 yr GCSE course, we are hoping to be out there by the end of summer would he have missed the start of the Australian equivalent ?
any thoughts are we messing his education up?

Here is a link to tell you the school term dates for Queensland
There are then links from there to found out those in other
states.

http://education.qld.gov.au/public_m...tm#anchor00002

I hope this helps.

I think the cut off for what year your child is in, is December.

For example, my daughter who will be 9 in September (so going
into Year 4 in September here) will be going into Year 5 in
January in Oz. Again this may vary depending which state you'll
be in.

It also depends on the ability that the principal perceives your child has......our eldest is 10 and should have gone into Year 5. The principal advised us to put him in year 6 - which we did - and he is doing fine.
