Default Australian Passport

My friend has an Australian passport he moved to the uk after he was born and lived here ever since, does he have to go through any visa/residency applications or can he travel and stay freely as he wishes?

thanks

As long as he has a current Australian passport he can come and go as he wishes.

Yes, I am in the same position.

Not sure if your friend has any family. My children got an australian passport through me (citizenship by descent), my husband needed a spouse visa.

Yup just turn up and roll through the Aus passports door and out into the big wide world on his own. Might even get benefits, too, from Centrelink because he is a citizen.

He can return to Australia anytime he likes PROVIDED he hasn't lost his Australian citizenship. This could have occurred if he became a citizen of another country (eg Canada, USA etc) before 4 April 2002, or his parents did.

He should be aware that (presumably) he's a British citizen by descent and hence should read for reference:
http://britishexpats.com/wiki/Britis...hip_by_Descent

If he has children in Australia they may need to be registered with the Home Office before they can become British.
