Australian ISP's
I read somewhere on this message board that internet costs are high in Oz. Can somebody give me a clue as to how much it does cost for internet access?

The service itself was unreliable, the customer service was poor. There was more than one occasion where we were without connectivity for >72 hrs.
I hear there are far better service providers in Oz.....

Telstra are a rip off full stop.
Their ADSL plans charge for Uploads and Downloads.
I've been told that Swift ADSL are good.
256/64 2 gbytes peak time usage + 2 gbytes off peak $45.00 pm
512/128/ 2gbytes peak time usage + 2 gbytes off peak $55.00 pm

Previously I was with iiNet, but their support service was appalling used to take about 45mins to get through to someone.

I use Internode for ASDL and my 1500/256 12GB/month now costs $89.95 a month. If you download like a maniac, for $149.95 they offer 1500/256 64GB/month.
For the same price you can get an unlimited download package, (many other companies also offer unlimited download broadband as well) but with these unlimited downloads packages: if you are a heavy downloader, they can throttle back your connection, sometimes to the extent you finish up with modem speeds
Right up till I moved house recently, I have had absolutely no problems, just now I am having a huge wait to get it reconnected but that is Telstra's fault as they do the low level provisioning.
Bigpond, TPG etc offer cheaper monthly ASDL, but have low download limits and relatively high excess download charges. Unless I download a truckload of movies I never get anywhere near my limit.

I have not needed to call Swiftel support yet but the complaint noise on their forum has recently shot up.
I think their recent NSW expansion has been too rapid and recently they put in 4 new pipes to help matters. Hopefully they will return to their old ways.
28.50 for dialup is daylight robbery and I would move away from that ASAP.
