How much of a difference will it actually make though, no one knows until it launches.
Will it stop bittorrent traffic?
Will it stop legitimate sites?
Will it stop porn sites?
Do you have any actually data or evidence to back up your claims, or is it all just third hand, oh this will probably be bad rumours?
Until it goes live how can people know what the effect actually will be?

I think the bigger point is that we are adults the same as the rest of the world....so should be able to choose!

You may end up in a one-party system as well ... but will have left the country at this stage ... for sure!

All you can be assured of is that it will be less interent than you currently get. Do yout hink your government should do that to you or do you think you should be the person who decides what you can and can't see?

I dont think this will be a problem at all and its being hyped up by a small minority of people to make it seem worse than it is.
Sometimes issues come around that make people jump up and get on their soap boxes. Anything vaguely connected to policitcs, freedoms, religon are common sparks that make people forget reason and start spreading nonsense.
Being an adult without kids I do what I want when I want and am of course against restrictions and censorship but I will wait until there is evidence from a live running implementation of the system before I start attacking it.
These systems are put in by real people, not some strange shadowy government figures and as such real people tend to apply common sense to them.
Dont condemn something before its given a chance...

Australia's level of net censorship will put it in the same league as countries including China, Cuba, Iran and North Korea, and the Government will not let users opt out of the proposed national internet filter when it is introduced.
Despite planning to hold "live trials" before the end of the year, Senator Conroy said it was not known what content the mandatory filter would bar, with euthanasia or pro-anorexia sites on the chopping block.

[QUOTE=TheSubMainMan;7032218]Aaahhh keep drinking the fluoride, she'll be right mate...
:Absolutely genius
What some people (obviously with a limited education) fail to grasp is that once laws/legislation are passed no matter how unpopular it may be they are very rarely reversed. Particularly when the mainstream media fail to actually report anything that does not come from a government press release.

Are you kidding? This is how "shadowy" schemes get put into practice, because people do not or are not allowed to question their government. A healthy democracy is one in which people have the right to question the aims and potential effectiveness of this sort of initiative and that is what people are doing here.

How can it be said that this project is a bad idea when none of the details are known yet, it seems to still be in the raw design phase they havent set anything in stone : “Senator Conroy said it was not known what content the mandatory filter would bar”. They dont even know themselves yet.
I dont get how people could be willing to protest on the streets over something thats unfinished and unknown.
oh and as for the comment left : "What some people (obviously with a limited education) fail to grasp is that once laws/legislation are passed no matter how unpopular it may be they are very rarely reversed."
I wont sink to your level, but if you wish to discuss qualifications in messages I would be happy to compare them with yours. I think you would be in for a surprise

Absolutely people should question things and investigate but not condemn without any evidence. Just as no scientist would reject a theory without putting it to the test.

I should imagine the number of people who surf the net looking for/at kiddy porn is a tiny percentage, yet we all have to suffer censorship due to this minority of scumbags.

People just need to look at the kind of people they're voting into power. Look at what the Left has done to China. Look at what the Left did to Russia. Look at what the Left has done to Britain since 1997. Now it's Australia's turn. These aurhoritarians get voted in because people with little political education are easily persuadedthat conservatives are nasty evil people that only care about the rich.
You get what you vote for, and in Australia's case it's stuffed until they get the ALP out of power in Canberra. In the meantime, think of the damage it could do in the next 6/9 years.
