Default Australian immigration do i need original birth certificate?

My father is applying for a visa under the parent migration scheme.
We need to supply my sisters Birth certificate, and it says on the form that it should be an original or a certified copy.
My sister for some reason doesn't want to send this and she says that as she is an Australian citizen a photocopy should be enough!!
can anyone tell us whether this is true or not please?

Mike

I don't know, but why not just get another original copy of the birth certificate? Yes, it will cost something, but not much compared with the overall expense of your father moving to Australia!

You will need to supply a certified copy. Certain solicitors (who specialise in emigration) and JP's can certify copies. It doesn't cost much either way, provides DIMIA with what they require, and will save you time and hassle if you comply with their requests from the start.

I don't think you need to have an original copy (i.e. a certificate issued by the issuing authority) certified, though, do you?

If you have an original document then it does not need to be certified. If you are sending a photo copy then it needs to be certified.
