We are with HBA. They offer a specialist cover for those on 457 visas which allows you to claim the medicare rebate which most other cover does not. Afraid i dont know the cost as company provide it.

Health insurance is expensive. A quote I have from hfc would be $422 for a family.

Are you looking for the health insurance so you can get the 457 visa or is it because you want it?

Where do you come from as that could have a bearing on some replies?

As mvagusta says. Be aware that if you are from the UK you do not have to have health insurance as you are covered by reciprochal agreement and entitled to Medicare

Hence the reason for asking if they have the 457 visa as it can be tricky to get it without the proper cover.

many thanks for the replies thus far.

to clarify

i do not have the 457 visa yet and i am travelling from the uk. i have just had a case officer appointed and they have requested proof of health care cover

aware of the (RHCA) - is this enough cover - worried with young kids?

recent quotes i have had are around $450 per month, could anyone explain the medicare rebate?

thanks

alan

I've recently got my 457 using travel insurance and a covering letter from Hfc an insurance provider. I didn't spend any money on the letter.

Although Rhca is available after you arrive in Oz, I don't think you will be able to use it as part of the application.

Rhca should be more than enough when you arrive and all you will need to do is arrange ambulance insurance unless you want to pay for the medical insurance.

The cover is too expensive for me although there are other companies that supply it a bit cheaper.

You would be better to find out what you need to pay for using Rcha or what is not covered and see if you can get cover for that. I don't have any kids to worry about so rcha suits me.

Try searching the forum, there are plenty of posts about health insurance.
