Sigh.

Australia's fortunes are based on base resources.

Most people think we are looking towards a double dip at the very least, with the US and Europe going back into recession from what are at the moment VERY weak growth numbers (0.1 - 0.3% is basically fiddling the numbers to keep them above 0).

When the west is in recession most people expect China to hurt bad this time as infrastructure investments can't be paid back and markets evaporate.

As China hurts, Australia hurts.

So you'd expect Australia economy numbers to lag world numbers, except that companies and markets will pull in their heads once the realise recession is here. So initial hit, plus longer term follow-up - painwise.

What the numbers are today say what was happening yesterday; it says nothing about what's expected to happen tomorrow.

Previous quarter was negative 1.2% due to floods and cyclones. If the growth is sustained rate rises are certain.

so which is it?

The OP just wants to antagonize people because their opinions conflict with his utopian vision of Australia which is to be fair based on working in the only healthy sector of the Australian economy. He's polarized those of us that comment negatively as Haters which is just childish.

Tomorrows another day, it's the one after today and as today was a great day for us anyway, tomorrow can only be as good.

Don't worry when the hit comes it will be pretty big. As you rightly point out there is a time lag.
Still got a while to run a couple of years with luck? No crystal ball to say when worse luck.

And at the end of the day we're all not around longer term anyway so why worry.

Everything in my post is fact.

I've been called lots of things in my life, mature ain't one of them!
