Re: Australian Dollar at 18 Year High
18 year high against the USD, 16 year against the JPY and (I think) 2 year high against the GBP. As there will (probably) be only one more interest rate rise in Japan this year the carry trade will continue to push the AUD higher. So, yes, I think it can continue.

Likewise, I'm having nightmares. It's knocked enough of a dent in my finances to wave bye bye to the boat

All our savings are still in the UK, and they will be staying there until the exchange rate switches back in to our favour. Am so cross with myself for not getting it sorted out in March though! 2.54! :curse:

We also missed the 2.5 boat :curse:
But we secured at 2.37 at it's last spike a few weeks back when Tony did what should have been done 10 yrs ago.
Anyway, hindsight is a very powerful thing, foresight well, foggy at best.
When you have to commit you have to commit.
We also have sought financial advice and if the dollar goes up at next tax year end we will be ok as we have a plan.

We've been watching the dollar for a while now, and this rise has knocked quite a bit off what we were hoping to take over, makes a difference when buying a house ! We'll be leaving it as long as we possibly can before changing the money over, and keeping our fingers crossed that the dollar will weaken a bit in the meantime.

Interesting comments from currency strategist at ANZ here:

The market seems to be expecting further upward movement from the AUD, you might want to buy some now as a hedge.
