Default Australian Credit Cards

What do the banks do over here ?

do you have to be an Aussie citizen before getting a credit card etc? or do they just look for a good job and steady income, or whatever

We got out card when we got here before we had any income. Guess it depends on a lot of things .

No, but most issuers do insist that you are a PR. Some insist that you have a minimum income, but others don't. If you have stacks of money in the bank, then they may waive this requirment.

the issuer may write to your employer to confirm your income, and you have to satisfy the 100 points of ID test too, so in your early days of little documentation, this is quite hard.

we got our CC from ANZ a week after arriving on a 457.

UK passport=100 points for ID when we went into the bank.

Well, there you go.

Most 457s I know can't get one for love nor money.

I got mine with Virgin, and an overseas passport is only worth 70 points in the ID check.

If you tell the bank you've been in the country less than 3 months then a passport will be enough for the ID check. However that could also make them wary of giving you credit, so could go against you. It will depend on how much you have in the bank I'd expect.

Got mine with Virgin. They did ask for 100 point check, but never did get confirmation of employment or income to them. I kind of forgot to send it and 6 weeks after I did the ID check the cards came in the post.
Mine's pretty and pink and hub's is black. Much nicer than the ones we had before which were plain green.
