Hi

I am not 100% about what a settlement visa is, but I am an Australian citizen and I have "indefinite leave to remain" in the UK. This gives me the right to live and work here. I am however married to a Brit. Is this what you are talking about or are speaking about skilled migration like they have to Australia?

Australian citizenship gives the following rights:

1. Ancestry Visa if you have a UK born grandparent. After 4 years in the UK you can get UK settled status and naturalise as British later on.
There is talk the Ancestry Visa may be abolished in the near future.

2. You can apply for a working holiday visa.

Nothing else.

However "indefinite leave to remain" does not allow you to live overseas and return to the UK any time you like. You need to become naturalised British to have the ability to do that.
