Australian beds

Hi,

We've just sold our house (phew) and are trying to get to Melbourne before October when our visa validation is due, thus avoiding a validation trip.
Assuming the sale goes through OK (it bloody well better) we're working out what to take with us. We've got some nice beds but were wondering if Australian matresses are the same size as UK ones? If, in the future, we can't get replacement matresses for the ones we have , then it might not be worth taking them. Not that we wear them out quickly due to being super fat or hyper-energetic in bed or anything :-)
Also, does anybody know if Oz lightbulbs and fittings are the same as UK ones? We've got a couple of nice light shades and lamps we'd quite like to take.

Cheers,

BB

BB just noticed your post & thought these prices might be useful (from CBS Factory outlet in Richmond):

Mattresses:

Oz Queen (ie UK King) - from $460 to $2500 (but one costing $680 was an excellent quality well known brand similar to the one we bought in the UK so would be fine for us.

Pillows:

$49 each, but you can get them cheaper elsewhere.

Check out the 'bedding' thread we had on here last week or so, loads of useful costs etc in there.

Good luck!

Anya.

$49 for a pillow - you are joking! Go to Kmart you can get 2 for $16 and they frequently have 25% off Manchester weeks, it is well worth buying all of your bedding then. You can get Doona covers from $10 single and the sheet sets are pretty cheap too.

Super A mart has cheap beds a Queen from around $ 600. We bought a double with mattress for my son for $450, we paid $1600 for our bed as it is a pillow top Sealy King, top of the range and should last us a few years.

Shop around Big W has cheap Manchester as well.
