We have an australian mortgage for our investment property in Adelaide and last month, due to currency fluctuations and the fact that we didn't know that the bank were charging us $18 for every Swift transaction from our UK account, we were $3 short on our mortgage payment and they have charged us $345!!! Add to this the fact that they have, on 3 occassions, sent out a bank card to my husband none of which we have received, and we have advised them of this, they have charged us $15 for a lost card!! We are having no joy at getting any of this back from the bank. Can anyone advise us as to where we can go with this - apart from looking somewhere else for a mortgage - we are currently with Homeloans through Adelaide Bank.

Sounds fairly normal for an Australian bank <g>.

Our own bank kept sending unsolicited new chequebooks which we never received. Took about two years to sort it out: they had been sending them from the secure printer to our branch in Sydney, not to our address (which they had). Naturally, the branch kept them for a month then destroyed them (you wouldn't expect them to put themselves out and to contact the recipient, would you?).

And, as usual here, you are left with the taste that they consider it to be *your* fault....

I think the Ombudsman would be more impartial than the Bankers Association.
