Default Australia v Uruguay in World Cup play off...

Following Uruguay's 1.0 win over Argentina this morning, Australia will play Uruguay (again) in a 2 leg play off to qualify for the World Cup in Germany.

First leg in Montevideo, date TBA.
Second leg: Wednesday 16th of November at Telstra Stadium - Sydney.
(Shown live on SBS).

Woohoo! Should be a brilliant excuse to have a few beers and cheer on The Socceroos!

Does this mean Argentina have failed to qualify?

No. Argentina have already qualified.
It was between Uruguay & Columbia for who got the play off spot in the South American group. Columbia won this morning as well, but any win for Uruguay would see them through to play Australia.

No matter how optimistic I am, my money has to be on Uruguay.

The last one of these I was in Oz for was when they played Iran in '97. They won in Tehran but absolutely blew it in Sydney.

But anyway, come on the Socceroo's.

Paul.

they should play this game somewhere else, in a made for 'football' stadium, such as the suncorp stadium. yeah, sure less people would get to go, but the atmosphere would be electric.

No, they should play it in Perth.

Plenty of brits here, so proper singing/chanting on the terraces. Should be simple enough to create a good old british style football ground atmosphere instead of screaming kids

there's enough brits in brisbane too (too many in fact). does perth have a big enough 'football' stadium? perth glory's capacity is only 18,000 and subiaco, while seating 43,000 is an oval.

Yeah. It's revenge time for the Socceroos. Gus Hiddink is going to guide the Australian soccer team to glory, just as what he did previously with South Korea.

Come on you mighty OZ!

It was between Uruguay, Colombia and Chile actually. Uruguay had to beat Argentina (who had already qualified) if the other 2 won their matches, against Paraguay (who had already qualified) and Ecuador. The first leg is in Montevideo on Nov 12th and the return is in Sydney. I hope it isn't a case of deja vu!

Carn the 'roos!
