4. Equal employment opportunity

Australia is no doubt a very good country, better than many. I does deserve to be in the top 20s. But, number 2? Well, I doubt.....

How can Australia's cost of living be deemed so much better than UK's? There may be MANY advantages to life in Australia - but cost of living is definately not one of them - theres thought the general concensus now was that although historically Austalia has been a cheaper place to live its now a LOT more expensive (costs v income) than UK.

I still can't get over France beating Australia.

But then, I also wonder about Uruguay, Hungary, Portugal, Lithuania, Andorra and the Czech Republic ALL beating the UK

It is a strange world.

It is the UK's world position that may be under question here, for cost of living, rather than the Australian position.

See these rankings: (The bottom 10 out of 193 countries)

184 Zimbabwe
185 United Kingdom
186 Trinidad & Tobago
187 Russia
188 Libya
189 Ireland
190 Bahamas
191 Bermuda
192 Japan
193 Sweden

These are the middle 11 countries

96 Bahrain
97 Kyrgyzstan
98 Micronesia
99 Hungary
100 Croatia
101 Dominican Republic
102 Jamaica
103 Liberia
104 Yemen
105 Australia
106 United States

The top two....

1 Iraq
2 Afghanistan

Very well, look at all the Aussie actors, heath Ledger, mel Gibson, Russell Crowe, Hugh Jackman and Aussie films and soaps and aussie bands and musicians over the years.. For a small country of 20m OZ has plenty of culture, Look at the latest Robin Hood film starring two Aussie Actors Russell Crowe and cate Blanchett. It seems every second hollywood film has an Aussie actor in it these days.

Also Aboriginal culture is the oldest culture in the world. The sydney Opera house the most famous Opera house in the world.

I have to disagree with that! After living in the UK for 12 months I couldn't believe how expensive it was compared to Adelaide! The rent and the utilities were waaaaay more expenisive than in Adelaide and my wage in the UK was pretty much the same as it would be back home. There are some places in Australia that are very expensive to live in (such as Sydney and the Gold Coast) but I think generally speaking the cost of living in Australia is better than the UK. :)

These "Quality of Life" rankings have always been a complete joke. I take no notice of them.
