Thumbs up Australia ranked 2nd in UN "human development index"

AUSTRALIA is second best - almost but not quite the greatest place in which to live, according to the latest United Nations human development index. Norway pips us by a flared nostril. Australia scores 0.93 on a scale of 0 to 1, where 1 is the highest score possible. At 0.94, Norway's margin over Australia is close to invisible.

If the UK was No.1 on that list, you would have posted it about 3 hours ago.

That list is totally bizarre - and I'm not just thinking about Australia.

It's always puzzled me why the United in the UN isn't written "United".

Looking at it, the main difference seems to be in the education score.

Got to question a survey that says Australian education is substantially better than that in the UK. Seems to smell of fish, methinks.

Rankings were also adjusted for inequality within a country. When inequality in terms of education, health and gender were taken into account, the US dropped from fourth place to 23rd. However, the UK rose by four places to 24th.

So even if the majority have the highest standard in the world, but a few percent are disgustingly rich, the country drops down the list. As I said, bizarre.

I love this bit 'We are among the most satisfied citizens on earth, typically giving a figure of 7.5 when asked to rate our satisfaction with life on a scale of 0 to 10.' Miserable Britain scores a lowly.........wait for it.........7. So the difference between being really happy and miserable is apparently 0.5 whatevers
