Default Australia opens the doors on the wealthy

Forget all this skilled visa bull , try hard cash it opens all doors in the land of a fair go.
Come over knock out a ankle snapper and bingo a few quid and the land of plenty awaits , bring your mum and dad its open house to them that can pay.
A country that measures family reunion by a bank balance has no soul .

The Federal Opposition has labelled new laws which will open the way for thousands more parent migrants to come to Australia - if they put up $35,000 a head - as inequitable, and a part of a "cruel and cynical strategy".

The laws were passed by Parliament yesterday with the support of the Democrats and in the face of protest from the Labor Party.

The Government has paved the way for 4000 more parents to be given the opportunity to join their families in Australia, on top of the current 500 places, by creating a second, more costly, method for migrants to enter the country.

Previously, under changes introduced in 1997 by the Howard Government, there were only 500 places for parent migrants, who could pay $5725 to join their children. This number was down from 8900 under the last Labor government.

The new laws mean those (cheaper) places have been boosted to 1000 but, in addition, the Government has created a new visa for 3500 parent migrants who can afford to pay $35,000 per person.

That figure is made up of a health charge of $25,000 for a permanent visa, to be followed by another $10,000 second health charge and a $10,000 security bond to cover any social security costs in the first 10 years of residence
