Default Australia - My moment of clarity

Let me set the scene.... Scarborough, Perth. Its 7:40am. I'm walking down the street to the bus stop for my commute to work listening to my Ipod. The song Strawberry Swing by Coldplay. It was lovely and warm, no breeze, blue skys, the ocean has that nice shimmery twinkle (you know the one).

For a change on my commute I was really taking notice of where I was, what was happening round me and listening to the lyrics...

They were sitting
They were sitting on the strawberry swing
Every moment was so precious

They were sitting
They were talking under strawberry swing
Everybody was for fighting
Wouldn't wanna waste a thing

Cold, cold water bring me round
Now my feet won't touch the ground
Cold, cold water what ya say?
When it's such…
It's such a perfect day
It's such a perfect day

I remember
We were walking up to strawberry swing
I can't wait until the morning
Wouldn't wanna change a thing

They were telling me yeah you're doing the right thing your living your life getting out in the world, right now this moment in time is as pefect as can be, then the lyrics go on...

People moving all the time
Inside a perfectly straight line
Don't you wanna curve away?
When it's such…
It's such a perfect day
It's such a perfect day

Now the sky could be blue
I don't mind
Without you it's a waste of time

Could be blue
I don’t mind
Without you it’s a waste of time

Could be blue,
could be grey
without you I’m just miles away

And it hit me! All this means jack sh*t without my closest friends and family.

Anyway sorry for rambling but that was it my moment of clarity - Australia rocks I love living here just not in this life - I'm going home.

You seem to be easily influenced by music. Whatever you do, dont listen to anything by William Shatner or you'll be wired to the moon.

Well atleast you can use it as a pick me up. There is no way for it to possibly send you on a downer that Coldplay seemed to do.

It is sometimes good to have a 'flash of lightening' moment to put things in perspective, be it something someone does or says. I wouldn't think for one moment that this has come as a bolt out of the blue, but rather has culminated lots of feelings all at once. I think that sometimes you need a push to make you realise what is important to you. I do think though that if this has come as a bolt out of the blue, it would be best to give quite a bit more thought to it (yes, probably best steer clear of Keane too!). Given your name can I guess you come from Bristol? (Me too, for my sins) - my opinion of Bristol is that you're best staying where you are! Seriously though, do some sole searching and go with your heart would be my advice. Good luck for the future, whatever your decision.

Let's see:

1. Listens to Coldplay.

2. Decides there must be more to life.

Hmmm...yep, would have that effect on me too.

I had my moment of clarity a few years ago, too and that's when we decided to leave our home and try something new. You can only do what's right for you and your personal circumstances. Best of luck with everything and I wish you every happiness back home.

Thanks for the kind words. And your right its not a bolt out of the blue. For a while my minds just been churning over... is this the right thing for us, should our daughter be on the otherside of the world to grandparents... the usual stuff really, and that day was just the sum of all the thoughts.

Not for one moment am I going back because of Australia we love it here and if we could transplant our close friends and family members here we would stay.

Am in a better mood this morning currently listening to Fifi and the Flowertots and dancing with my daughter!

That's the spirit! Its easy to find emotional hooks in music, that's why, in my opinion, its the most evocative of all the arts. If you want to help yourself not feel 'blue', avoid listening to the 'blues', I should know I've been through my own Tom Waits and Leonard Cohen phases.
