Default Australia Day weekend in Brisbane & Gold Coast

My friend and I are planning a long weekend trip north of the border around the Australia Day long weekend.

Is 3 days each enough for BNE and GC? Thinking of Fri-Sun in BNE and Mon-Wed in GC.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Depends on what you want to do! Will you have a car or rely on public transport?

Brisbane - river trip on the Citycat ferry. Climb the Story Bridge. Have Sunday breakfast (brunch!) at the Mt Cootha lookout.

Gold Coast - Dreamworld, Seaworld, Movieworld - not sure what else is worth doing.

January is a bit of a brutal time of year to be travelling around all day playing tourist.

Impossible to answer your 3 day question. Really depends what you like doing/seeing, your transport options, whether you are just sticking to the city centre or seeing inner suburbs, surrounding mountains, rainforest, islands, towns etc...personally I would spend longer in Brisbane than the Gold Coast because more to do that I like (unless going to GC hinterland) but if you want to relax on the beach Gold Coast is obviously better.

Australia Day (January 26) commemorates the day when the British Empire invaded and occupied the continent.

Aboriginals call it the Invasion Day.

Australia Day is great when you're overseas, when you're home it's just a day to avoid the pissed bogans.

The dreaded armies of barefoot males, pissed, carton of stubbies under arm, yelling, bare chest with southern cross tatt, wrapped in a huge 'Made in China' Australian flag declaring their love for white australia

One of those 'lovely' moments NOT.

We tend to slash the yard the acerage that day, drowns out the sound
