Australia becoming another republic of China
It appears that China is slowing taking over Australia bit by bit.
They are increasing the number of flights between Aus and Asia to fly in chinese miners. Great tracts of land and housing is being brought up by the chinese.
Politicians make it easy , look the other way and get kick backs whilst china takes over.
In 20 years manderin will be the main language im afraid

Similer...
Seriously, I agree. Not just Australia - China has bought up huge amounts of raw materials in Africa and elsewhere so that they can continue to manufacture the cheap rubbish they do at the moment. Very soon they will be the only manufacturing country in the world and we'll just have to kow-tow to them. (Slight exaggeration, but not much.)

Re: Australia becoming another republic of China
I'm not really agreeing with the main point of this thread however a few people are wondering if the great everlasting China boom story is sustainable, I posted in another thread...
Jim Chanos, who made a fortune shorting Enron among other things China's treadmill to Hell and The Myth of China's building Boom
If China does hit "a bump on the road" it could be bad for other countries especially Australia.

Re: Australia becoming another republic of China
Please post evidence of this. Although China invests heavily in Australian resources, the actually 'own' very little of them. Chinese mine workers are thin on the ground, and as long as the government maintains it's strict immigration policies, that's the way it will stay.

Wo tong yi!
Talking of Chinese, I drove past our local strawberry farm yesterday and there were loads of pickers...all Chinese wearing coolie hats. Looked like a scene out of Asia and very strange as you don't see many Chinese who would be working in the fields down our way. Wonder if they all come down from Springvale area?
Better brush up on my Mandarin then if they are taking over!

If China does hit "a bump on the road" then Australia will hurt through reduced resources exports and lower resource prices - as well as a general depression in the region.
Heads you lose, tails you don't win.

If China doesn't hit "a bump on the road" then OECD countries will be in a bad way as Chindia takes a bigger and bigger slice of the available oil - forcing countries like Australia to make do with less AND pay a higher price.

If China doesn't hit "a bump on the road" then OECD countries will be in a bad way as Chindia takes a bigger and bigger slice of the available LPG- forcing countries unlike Australia to make do with less AND pay a higher price.
If China does hit "a bump on the road" then Australia will hurt through reduced resources exports and lower resource prices - but will not suffer the severe downward spiral of Europe and US as it is still placed in the highest growth area in the world which is SE Asia.

If you want to stop them
stop buying iphones and other electrical goods
If people didnt buy so much crap that is made in china then they wouldnt have the money to spend.
But if you want all your gadgets and things, giving your money to the people making them, then you cannot complain when they start spending all that money
