Default Austar, Optus or Foxtel???

Been checking out satellite TV packages (or is it cable?)and there seems little between the three providers. They all seem to have the same channels and the only thing distinguishing them is how their interactive system works or whether you want to bundle with other services such as internet and phone.

Can anyone offer a recommendation?

My main interest is in sports coverage and something for the kids if this helps.

Cheers!

It mainly depends on where you are, some areas are Foxtel only or Austar only so you don't get a choice. Other than that there is very little in it, unless you join one of them when they are doing special deals, for example we went with Austar because they offered us no tie in (very often minimum 24 months), free installation, free second installation and first month full subscription free. No idea about Optus - wasn't aware they did subscription tv.

Thanks Moneypen

We're planning on moving to Brisbane (from Dubai) but your answer is what I thought seemed to be the case.

Cheers

Mate terrestrial TV is the way to go, there's so much choice. Not trying to sell it or anything but I find there's something for everyone on the 5 channels.

It's another Oz Mafia setup, I think: they've got it carved up so that Foxtel serbvice the metropolitan areas and Austar the more rural ones. No competition so prices are under no pressure. Unless I'm missing something, the satellites cover the continent and it's only collusion that stops there being true competition.
