Default Aussie internet use, beware.

I signed up to Telpacific 6 months ago on an unlimited download deal.

I've now been slowed to dial-up for a week as I've used it too much

When I complained, they said yes it is unlimited but after so much you will be put on dial up but wont be charged for it so you can still download so in essence unlimited

Us too, we are unlimited with no slow down. We have ours with TPG but not sure what their deals are now.

In that case you should ask for a copy of the T&C's and to listen to your confirmation that you've read and accepted them.

Oh tell me about it! ...

I called Telstra's Bigpoo and took on what I thought was 'unlimited' bandwidth, and a year contract! I too signed up over the phone and WASN'T told about any capping or the fact the contract is for 24 months! ...

I'm capped to 10Gb and I have 5 days to go and have used 9.7GB so will be in the same boat as you VERY soon! ...

I've emailed them and asked to come out of the contract as I wasn't made aware of any capping or 24 month contract!

They've replied and said I need to phone them to terminate the contract, but will I be able to do so without a fine of sorts ?!?

Hmmmm.

So who IS giving PROPER unlimited bandwidth for a decent fee anyone?

This is common on lower cost broadband deals. You have to read the fine print before signing up.

They are required by law to. I'd have it out with them if that's the case.

That's the flipside I guess.

I have the first 9 months of the contract (which I thought was a year) at $49.99, which would norm be $99.99

That's the good bit, but with 4 PC's in the house, dl of the odd mp3 or movie, 10GB will run out in ................. about a day's time!

I've told the kids it's Messenger and browsing for now, but we have about 300MB left of the 10GB and as I say I reckon within 24 hours we'll be down from 1500 kb/s to 64kb/s ...lol

Now THAT'LL bring back awful memories I'm sure.

You know in the UK I didn't keep tabs, as simply didn't need to. There WAS talk of the co throttling BW but I never see it. After this month eating up 10Gb in just over 3 weeks, I hate to think how much data was coming down that tube!

To quote Bogpoo :

We reserve the right to shape your service if your data usage exceeds 10 GB in a single month. This helps ensure that all BigPond Broadband users can enjoy fair and equitable access to our networks. 10 GB is an enormous amount of data for one month and represents a deliberately high threshold.

Errrrr ......... I disagree.
