Re: Aussie dollar weakness ahead?
What needs to happen is for consumers to cut back spending on imported flummeries, start saving and paying off debt, businesses to invest in increasing labour productivity. Already happening in part.
Work place reforms will head off labour unrest likely with relatively low unemployment. Elimination of the super surcharge and increasing the tax thresholds will encourage household savings and positively geared investment. Increased interest rates have halted housing speculation and further interest rate increases would encourage debt reduction and curb spending cutting the current account and trade deficits.
The dollar floats, depends on demand for Aus exports and interest rates and is largely dictated by foreigners.

The Australian dollar fell 0.7 per cent to a seven-month low of $0.7501 after first quarter economic growth came in at a disappointing 0.7 per cent.

Is there another currency/economy so prone to wild swings and scary headlines :scared:
Just 2 Examples below but you notice conflicting reports almost weekly.
Three days ago interest rates were supposed to be 9% result of which would be a very strong dollar, two days later the dollar is going limp.
4 hours after the BIS shrapnel report saying 9% interest rates there was another report saying rates were unlike to rise given current figures released on housing and defecit
Pinning the tail on the donkey would be more predictable than planning your economic future in OZ.
