Assuming that my wife had to be present in the UK if she made an application for citizenship stopped us from submitting her application. The result of that was that she now no longer qualifies.....Just want to make sure of everything so we don't end up in a similar position again as we need to travel next year. If you can do the ceremony overseas all well and good.....if not then we won't travel until it is all sorted.

A fairly legitimate question I felt......

Apologies. I sounded awful.
Go to the DIMIA website and they will advise you. There is a calculator that tells you if you are eligible or not. if you contact your local council they can sometimes tell you when the ceremonies are in advance.
All best. It is a good thing to get and enjoy the day and belonging to a great place like Oz.

The citizenship process *usually* has to be done onshore, there are a few exceptions but not many.

You'd need to get professional advice if you want to look at this any further, very few agents know anything about this area, one who might is Peter Bollard in Sydney.

Usually the simple way is to forget any kind of travel overseas (vacations and short business trips excepted) until after you become a citizen.
