Dropbears?

They can't jump large distances but they can jump, and they often use leaves as a platform so if you brush past them they can get on to you without you knowing they are there. They are one of the nastiest insects on earth I reckon. They are extremely aggressive, you just need to look out for them though, never go out in bare feet or socks in summer and if you find a nest near your house you need to poison them.

The Dropbears story is what Australians tell tourists who are overly scared of dangerous Australian animals when they come over here. Many of them actually believe it. It is all just a good natured wind up though.

Oh Ok, sorry for blowing your cover. (So am I, shush haha)

You would know all about bull ants and jack jumpers then. They are probably the animals Australian's fear most, notorious they are.

I am even a bit scared of kangaroos the way they stand up tall, freeze and stare at you when you get near them in the wild. Some of them are evil I reckon. There have been a few serious kangaroo attacks not far from my area in recent years, towards Melbourne. A kangaroo can easily beat the average person to a pulp if you get into a confrontation with one. It is very rare but if they find themselves cornered or are particularly distressed for some reason they are known to attack.

It's not all just spiders and snakes down here.

Yeah, spent a lot of my childhood staring at bull ants, I was a strange child!

Mind you my leg will never recover from the white tailed/legged spider that ate away at my leg, I won't go into detail as the immigration rate would soon drop!

Still not fearful of them mind you, don't understand the obsession myself

l find it a bit strange some people say they won't immigrate to OZ becasue they are affraid of the wildlife. Actually more people are killed by the wildlife in the USA each year, the USA has venomous spiders, rattlesnakes, mountainlions, grizzly bears, sharks, alligators all of which kill people.
But thats not an issue when people are immigrating to the US. Actually twice as many people die from snake bites per year in the USA then OZ
As for people affraid of spiders no one has died from a spider bite in OZ in 30 years.

Yes, I'd be far more worried about backyard swimming pools with little kids than creepie crawlies. The statistics are horrible.
