Westpac was easy for us,opened the account up (online) a few months before we came here,no deposit needed but $5 a month to keep it opened.
Forms straight forward,id needed but again straight forward,2 phone calls to make sure we knew what we were doing & we were on track.
Took us under a month to sort all the details out,but they open the account straight away.
Maybe not the best bank for charges but once you are here you can sort another out?

Donna.

Its easy enough to open an account once you are in Australia.

The Australian National Credit Union are really good and fees are lower than that of banks over here, plus there is no monthly account keeping fees. If there is no branch in your area, you can go to the Post Offices here even to open your account with them.

Common wealth bank is really easy to open from here. Go to their site click on migration banking, print off the forms, fill out (easy) send with copy of passport, recent bank statement and a recent utility bill. Again these arent great for fees. HSBC can be opened from here but is much more of a rig-ma-roll,means going into the bank with lots of ID. Opening with $2000 so on and so forth, but this online account is no charges, and once open you dont have to keep $2000 in the account
