Aus programmes on Sky in UK (and Europe)

All,

I must admit that we try to catch most of the Aus DIY programmes on Sky and were wondering what everyone thought of them and if you knew of any others.

The ones we are aware of are:

Australia Direct - BBC24 - about once a month.
Was one today at 11h30 and I'm sure it gets repeated

Our House Down Under - Discovery Home and Leisure
Seems to have disappeared from the schedule recently)

Hot Property - Discovery Home and Leisure
Useful info on house buying and renting in Aus)

Australia Uncovered - Sky one?
Noisy backpackers in Aus.

Ben Dark's Australia - One of the documentary channels
Good for history of the explorers in Aus.

Getaway - Travel channel
An Aus travel channel so it's nice to see where Aussies are going.

Fatal Shore - Channel ???
Haven't seen it for some time but sure it will be repeated again.

Bronzed Aussie Gods - Travel Channel???
Programme about Aussie lifeguards. Sally wants one for Xmas!

Anyone know of any others?

And I was begininning to think I was the only sad person on this earth that watches all the Australian Programmes on Sky, plus Neighbours and Home and Away (just to see the weather you understand!!).

The Australian Train Journeys on I think it was Sky Travel were also very good. Haven't seen it for a few weeks.

Just the mere mention of the word and my ears prick up

My favourite is 'The Life of Us' a dramas filmed in Melbourne. It's on late Thursday night on E4.

I wish I knew which Saturdays it was on. The Cable TV doesn't carry detailed
schedules for BBC News24 any more. Didn't you think that trying to work the
mature ladies circus class in under the spirit of ANZAC was a little contrived to
say the least?

Vital for anyone who wants to know about Melbourne. Once you realise that airport is
up a dirt road (a long time ago epi), you understand why no one ever goes to the
airport to see people off

All,

Blast, forgot Neighbours and Sally (an avid fan) has given me a clip about the ears. Sally tells me she just watches it for the weather in Melbourne. Anyhow, Harold has regained his sight I'm told.

Tony, Fully agree the ANZAC/circus act was very contrived. Aus Direct is really hard to catch as it seems to bo one so rarely. Is it a monthly programme?

Re: Aus programmes on Sky in UK (and Europe)

There is of course coverage of some of the NRL and the ARL games usually on Sky Sports 2 on a Saturday morning, I am trying hard to understand the rules of Rugby League as my hubby is an avid fan.

My only rule is that I get to take sushi to eat at any game, that included sitting in freezing temperatures, watching Australia and Russia play in Hull November 2000, or freezing Newcastle NSW last August.

I haven't got in to watching Neighbours probably cos my son prefers Dragon Ball Z!! and I know I will miss Eastenders and Brookie... oh well these are the sacrifies one has to make!!!

Seen that one, not bad for seeing flashing boobs! But the Brit backpackers that
appear on it are total dickheads. Also the program appears faked, it just so happens
that the people they're filming win competetions etc. Also some of the women on the
beach appear to be models.

On BBC 24, at half one there's a program called "Australia Direct" which shows
news etc. from down under - probably of more value, if less entertaing than
previous program.

Cazsue,

You certainly won't be freezing when you're watching Rugby from now on ! As your hubby has no doubt told you, your local team will be the Brisbane Bronco's (possibly THE best side in Australia).
They were on TV on Saturday and it just made me ache to be back over in Aus......

Re: Aus programmes on Sky in UK (and Europe)

Gareth,

Not sure about the not freezing bit, I have been in Brisbane in April, July and August and thought it decidely cold once the sun set below the horizon.

Regarding the comment about the Broncos I mentioned the same to my hubby and quote the following verbatum (so therefore don't blame me and I'm not starting a war!!!!)>

" my comments are probably not suitable...

Ha ! Guess he won't be buying you a season ticket then !

No offense taken from me, I don't support the Bronco's. Who does your husband support ? Maybe one of the non-NRL teams like Ipswich Jets (or have I said the wrong thing again ?).

Your husband sounds like a genuine RL bloke - we all have various sports-related grievances that we have to share with other !
