Unbiased or not capable of thinking laterally and looking subjectively at a decision. I hope you don't run your entire life by these 'statistics' you keep going on about because they are mostly meaningless

I have created a spreadsheet (see attached) and have found that 100% of users called 'nandor' would prefer to move to London than Sydney. I think that supports your claim?

Does anybody really migrate to Australia to make their fortune, I thought it was a given that a lower salary was the reality but the quality of life improvement is the goal

I think many come here assuming they will make more money and also assume their quality of life will improve, neither of course is certain.

I want out of the UK for a bit so I am looking at other countries at the moment.

Are there IT jobs (C++ Software Engineers) at Investment Banks / Hedge Funds there? If so, what's a good place to start looking?

What's the most cosmopolitan city? Is it Sydney?

PS. Good post, you sort of answered most of my nagging questions.

best place to start looking is www.immi.gov.au to see if you qualify for a visa, the job comes next......

Just checked; Software Engineer is listed as Skilled Occupation List. I am British Citizen so I'm surprised that the site did not find a visa when I said I wanted to stay in Australia for 12 months or more but not when I selected permanently. When I chose Permanently, I was eligible for a Skilled - Independent (Migrant) (subclass 175) visa.

There has been a lot of nerd rage in this thread. In my experience IT work in aus is far better paying but living costs are higher. There are also a lot more jobs on offer in aus.

One thing not covered is that in Aus you are apreciated and thanked a lot more than in the uk. I had aussies being really impressed with my quality of work and they would tell me so often which made me feel more valued as an employee. In the uk if you do a great job you might get a grunt of 'that was ok' or something similier but that will be a about it!

I haven't noticed any difference in this regard. Good clients, bad clients, nice clients, total a-holes! I have been in situations here where having been part of a team that won my employer a national award we were completely shafted as they divvied up the prizes amongst themselves and their mates! Worst office politics ever!

Surely this comes down to individuals? I know you posted a similar thing in the MBTUK forum and you seemed to be on your own then as well. Each time you have made the same sweeping generalisations which understandably others didnt share. I have had good bosses and bad bosses in each country but hand on heart the worst boss i had was here in Brisbane.

Well I can only give you my opinon based on my experiences, exactly like everyone else.

Perhaps you want a poll?, or some often misinterpreted stats? not sure what you want from a forum post, the answer to the meaning of life?
