Question Aus medical insurance

I have to go for a lung capacity test on tuesday, then a ct scan on thursday. I then see the specialist the following tuesday ( 10th august ). If it is what we are hoping for then we fly on the 16th, if not then everything gets cancelled ( until sorted ).
Born in aus means I am not on a visa so i don't need to worry in that respect.

If it IS what we hope, it will entail further x-rays and visits to hospital ( every six months for a couple of years ) and ( possibly ) a biopsy in aus and i am concerned about the costs involved and the whole medical insurance thing.

Could anyone help me in relation to how easy / hard it is to get insurance and if previous medical conditions come into play, and if so, is it a hefty increase in premiums etc.

I have NO idea whatsoever what lies ahead and would appreciate any information you could share.

Thanks,
Paul

Health insurance companies have a tendency to exclude cover for pre-existing conditions. If they do cover them there may be a lengthy wait before cover will be given or a hefty premium or, more likely, both.
Best check with a few compnies first.

Good luck

Look into HCF .

I believe the waiting period for cover for a pre-existing condition is one year with them

Hi , I started working for Medibank Private 3 weeks ago so am still learning! For a pre-existing ailment the waiting period is 12 months, the premium will be no higher than it would be for anyone else. As for medicare you would be covered but the waiting period is very long............

Thanks gibson, the impression i got was that for certain conditions and treatment i WOULD be considered under medicare but for private medical insurance i would have to wait 12 months for cover, the cover would then cost the same as anyone else regardless of age etc.

Thank you for your replies everyone, it truly is a MAJOR concern for me because like i have already said ( in previous posts ) i am old school and the fact my wife and kids are upping sticks with me is very daunting if i cannot care for them as i should.

Ann-Marie is my rock and i would truly be lost without her. Granted from time to time i make statements that are somewhat...................unjustified ? , but i believe in what we are doing.

hels, i have never met you but feel we have already been through a lot together and thank you for your words of encouragement.

since posting this thread ( saturday morning ) AM has been to her mums ( where all our post is being redirected ) and found a letter from the hospital saying " your appointment for the 10th has been rescheduled for the 24th , sorry for any inconvenience caused " LOL, due to the fact that we are due to fly out on the 16th, yes, inconvenient

So. shall be on the phone in the morning to the hospital asking if there is any point in coming for these tests.
i WANT to have them but would REALLY appreciate knowing the results before we depart.

Again, thank you for your replies, much appreciated, everything is hanging in the balance.
I don't seek sympathy, truly, i just seek suggestions from anyone that may know/ have an idea of what may lie ahead.

Thanks again.

Paul.

PS, taking our son and daughter to old trafford on tuesday night to watch Boca juniors play " somebody ", followed by Man Utd V PSV eindhoven, 82 quid for two adults and two kids.
worth every penny.

It is possible to get treated under private health insurance if you are currently (in the UK) have private health insuarnce and thus can prove continuity. You'll have to look for those private health insurers in Aus that accept your UK private health insurer. If that is the case (also depending on the cover) then they can waive the waiting period for existing conditions.

You can contact www.iselect.com.au who can aid you in finding these insurers. We have a similar situation with my wife who is currently pregnant and wish to deliver the baby in a private hospital.

Good luck!

Hehe, two games back to back at old trafford, we may even get to see a big name player or two.

the thing is, i was at work a month ago chatting to a colleague and telling him i'd always promised callum ( our son) that i would take him, but decided to wait until he'd turned 7 because he probably wouldn't remember it. Now, with us going on the 16th, i would never get to do it.........

He phoned me up last week and told me they were having a tournament and he thought of us, so he has ordered, and received the tickets. 82 quid for two adults two kids, may even get a free toaster

Can't wait, been loads of times but callum has never been before , nor shannon ( daughter ), Ann-Mare has been, it was our first date, how romantic, sat there cuddled up and the occasional burst of obscenities at the referee, don't know that i'll be doing much shouting after the lung test tomorrow though.

Have phoned the hospital this morning and the appointment is back on track for the 10th.

Thanks, but we don't have private cover in the uk so i don't see that as an avenue to go down. Good point though.

I'm sure these hospitals just like giving you something else to worry about. They seem to do it all the time, arrange an appointment and then rearrange for a later date. Obviously had something really important on, on the 10th in order to rearrange and then rearrange back to the 10th.

Football, ah... Football one thing I'm going to miss when we go to Aus. I can hear my friends on the North Bank now... VIERRRAAA, OOOOHHHHH VIERRRAAA
