Default Aus import taxes

We are planning on moving out to Aus next Oct / Nov and I want to understand the rules around import charges / taxes for taking our belongings / cars ?

Belongings less than 12 months old may incur a charge - depending on the total value, and if noticed by customs. Additional charge by AQIS after arrival for checking.

Cars are expensive to import, and most of the time not worth bringing to Australia.

Thanks. I need to dig into this a bit more. I was looking at vans in Aus and could not believe that a Diesel Toyota Hi-Ace is ~ $40k

I'm pretty sure that vehicles are different and you have to own them for 12 months before applying for an import licence
