Attire for Job Interview

Hi,

I'm currently in Singapore but will be going to Melbourne next week to attend a job interview. I am a Telecom Engineer.

Just want to ask what the usual attire for interview is over there. Here in Singapore, a suit is not customary. How about over there?

living in New Zealand but spent some time working in aus on secondment. Aussies are generally pretty relaxed when it comes to the workplace, but if you are going for an interview you wont regret erring on the side of overdressing. a suit and tie would be my guess...

Suit and tie (conservative) - even if the interviewer is more casually dressed, they will want to see that you're taking this seriously and you've made an effort.

Many offices are quite casual on a dday-to-day basis, but the formal inetrview is different - definitely a suit :)

Probably explains why I didn't get that job when I turned up in a singlet, thongs and boardies.

Sorry to say but few Agencies scared me by telling if you dont wear suit you wont get a job...
ok its Contract but I got it w/o wearing suit..
There are companies who go by brain and not just by attire afterall its a job meeting and not client interview.

And those punks with those funny hairstyle interviewing me in suits made me laugh out loud...;)

Just be formal in your dress.
Good luck

I've been for 5 interviews in the 3 months I've been here. I wore short sleeved or polo shirt not tucked in & trainers. I got offered all 5 jobs. They really couldn't give a shit, or maybe it's because of the massive skills shortage & they're desparate!

Suit,Suit,Suit,Suit..................... Always were a suit for every job interview even if you are going for a Garbo man job. Sorry but is the way of the world.

You cannot ever be overdressed for any job interview but you can certainly be under dressed though. ;)

A suit is always recommended for interview. Its good for self confidence and for creating the very important "first impression".

Only lawyers and salesmen wear suits in Perth.
Definitely not engineers.

Not in Australia it isn't we've found a better way. Here they look at the person not what they're wearing.
