This article should (also) be compulsory reading for anyone planning to emigrate
http://britishexpats.com/news/latest...cancel-return/
New research shows some 15 per cent of British expats have cancelled plans to return in the last year. This equates to 825,000 of the estimated 5.5 million British people who are living overseas.
They say their quality of life is better abroad, their finances are healthier, their cost of living lower and their neighbourhoods safer, in a study commissioned by Lloyds TSB International. Furthermore, expats are increasingly shelving plans to return to the UK at all – the proportion of expats who now plan to live away from the UK indefinitely has leapt 13 per cent in 12 months, to 69 per cent. . . . |

That's because life is so much better in Australia on every level. There's no comparison. It's like comparing Monaco with Burkina Faso.

Another 'survey' that shows what exactly ? Expats have already left the country for whatever reason so why is it surprising that 15% of them have cancelled a move back ?
Both countries offer an extremely good lifestyle for different people, the same is probably true of other countries covered by this survey. Also why should this article be compulsory reading for a potential emigrant ?

Quite right Bix, should include the wife and child, make that 825 007. Although to be accurate, the wife is not from the UK and my boy was born in Jakarta. So I guess it's as you were, 825 005. The maid will need to make other arrangements.
Cheers, H. Erm, but do you think you could give my contact details to your maid? :D |

In the context of this thread I agree, best not to mention those "other" two persons.

Actually I read it like I do anything else and it makes absolutely no difference whatsoever to our plans and why should it ? I wouldn't expect someone planning on moving to Australia to get all hot under the collar about an article about Australia's rising COL or crime or anything else to be honest.
