On-arrival accomodation - Adelaide

Hi Guys

I am planning to move to Adelaide next March 10 and am interested in the on-arrival accomodation service provided by the SA.

I would be grateful if you could advise me of any worthiness of the service, or anyone with your own experience are welcomed. Is the place to stay far from the city etc. We are just a couple without kid so quite flexible.

Please also advise what is the best place to settle down for new arrivals in Adelaide.

Any help will be highly appreciated!

You can apply for the OAA but bear in mind that thousands of people apply for a very few vacancies. The accommodation is very basic but generally clean and fairly well kept; they are former HousingSA homes in areas with loads of other council houses. You have no choice as to where you may be placed, so if you find a job in Seaford and are granted a house in Tea Tree you will have one hell of a commute!

I wouldn't get my hopes up too much about it, as like I said the chances of being granted OAA are extremely slim.

We didnt even try and use the oaa, we booked furnished accommodation for 2weeks for when we first got here and then hunted furiously for a normal rental.

theres a few members on pomsinadelaide that have short term rental properties - the ones we used dont do short term anymore though.

Good luck

I know a few people who stayed at the caravan park in Glenelg when they arrived. It's clean, relatively central and less expensive than a house.

We got the OAA - and stayed for the full 12 weeks. Got a 2 bed unit in Glandore for $144 / week including bills. YES - it looked like the inside of a prison (painted breeze blocks and very basic furnishings) - but gave us a really good start.

Personally - I'd apply for it - and if you get it then it's a bonus.

I would apply for it - you will find that your money starts draining from the word go: took us 2 months to find and enter a good rental (saw some 50s and 60s horror stories) at a reasonable rate (lots of new houses not selling have been put up for rental at 600 plus a month).

Would second the caravan site - as long as you have transport.
