Arrgh Wasps nest
I have found 3 wasps nests in my garden, there might be more only found 3.
I dont know if they have wasps in or not, I havent seen any buzzing around, but im terrified now of the kids playing in the garden.
Well I think they are wasps nests, they look like honeycombe and look hard like rock, but they could be soft as i havent touched them.
One is just lying on the floor so I think it's dead or the wasps have left home (or what ever they do)
There is one in a concrete dog kennel in th garden, we dont have a dog thou.
And the thrid one is in the corner of the alfresco shade cover thing.
What do I do? Shall I poke it with a long stick and run? Have I moved into a wasp breeding house?
Help

Only poke them with a stick if you really want to be stung You can either drown them with a can of Mortein each or get a man in who will do it safely and take it away with him.

Oh god, do you think there will be wasps inside? I havent seen any wasps and one of the nests is just lying in the edge of grass like maybe it has fallen from the gutter?

No idea but in my book you don't poke a snake with a stick and you don't poke a wasps nest with one either. If you think it's dead and gone, drop a heavy brick on it and then dispose of it. I meant that the mortein should be used for ones that might be in use. I don't think wasps ever go back to an old nest though, so have a look round for small ones that will be being built.

If there are no wasps on the outside of the nest and you are not seeing loads of the wasps going to and fro every second then its dead. I am a pest controller in Uk for 15 years.
Is it Winter there? If so then defo dead - queens will have left the nest to hibernate elsewhere - get a tin of fly spray as a precaution(your can get wasps nest foam killer in uk from B&Q) and a bin liner, place bin liner around the nest and pulll the nest gently into bag and tie the top. Reason for this is there may be the odd dying wasp inside which has just hatched and you dont wanna be stung!

Just out of interest do you think I will be getting more wasps nest this summer? Or was it just unlucky as this house had been empty for a while?
Thanks
