Arranging temporary Brisbane accommodation from UK
Has anyone previously had success arranging their initial temporary accommodation in Brisbane from the UK? I'd love to know how you managed to find something. I've looked at some web sites and Brisbane doesn't appear to be as well catered for as other cities when it comes to fully furnished holiday homes (unless I'm not looking properly).
We are a family of 4, and we are not looking for anything too extravagent for our first month before finding a long-term rental.
Thanks in advance.
Cheers,
Daz

Re: Arranging temporary Brisbane accommodation from UK
Hi doub,
I haven't decided on a specific area as yet. I was hoping to organise a job before doing that - which is something I'm just starting to look at now. Having said that, it's fairly safe to assume I'll end up working somewhere in the CBD as this will be where most of the software jobs are (I presume). I've been looking at all the suburbs of Brisbane for housing - and I'm still trying to find out which areas are better than others (although price is usually a fair indication). I've seen some holiday rentals on a site called aussiemoves, but they're all 4 bedroom with pool - which I don't really for a family of four for a month. Although if that's all there is, and I knew it was definitely for the first month only, then I could live with the £1200 cost and write it of as a month long holiday.
Sorry I can't be any more accurate at this time.
Cheers,
Daz

Have you looked at the Brisbane Bound properties?
We stayed in the Hendra one last year and found it just right.
We would have no problems using that one again only we have decidied on the Gold Coast instead and its a bit too far to commute!!
The house has 3 bedrooms,2 bathrooms and a big open plan living area downstairs and downstairs cloakroom too. There is a yard and a community pool and gym.We were only there for 2 weeks and in that time there were kids knocking on the door to see if my son was playing out!He had met them at the pool.
We found the area good as it was central to what we needed at the time and within 20 mins or so from the airport too.
Just google brisbane bound...they are a British family who have migrated themselves so will offer you all sorts of advice.
Hope this is useful.
Janice.

Hi Daz
We found somewhere to stay in Brisbane on www.seqrents.com. They have unfurnished properties and furnished properties for long or short term rental. We used them twice and stayed in good properties both times. One in the western suburbs called Kenmore Hills which is about twenty minutes into the city and another time in Newstead which is very close to the city. You should be able to find something on there to start you off. Good luck.

Hi
We are just beginning the process of applying so we are way behind you, but i have recently barrowed a book that has useful info about places in australi. It says for places in brisbane www.rentalhotline.com.au is a specialist residential property which covers the Brisbane area or www.ourbrisbane.realestate.com.au or www.couriermail.news.com.au.
Hope this is helpful

Thanks everyone for your advice - your suggestions have been extremely helpful. The one which we (or rather the wife) have the most interest in currently is brisbaneBound (but being a woman she changes her mind every few hundred milliseconds so you never know )
But I should also just say that women are great though
Cheers all,
Dazster

Being a woman i can totally agrree!
Seriously though when we stayed at the house in Hendra it was fab.
The couple who own Brisbane Bound are both paramedics and they met us there when we first arrived and couldnt do enough for us.
We sort of wanted to do our own thing so didnt cause them any hassles but if we had needed them they would have been there.
The house is lovely and clean and spacious and to be honest we felt right at home there...we got chatting to the neighbours etc.I cried when we had to leave!
There was never more than another couple of people in the pool and my husband used the gym a few times and said that was good.
Everyone was friendly and it just had a nice feel.
Hope you sort it out.
Janice.
