WendyC - I've never seen Dylon in my local supermarket (although I have seen something purporting to be Vanish but which doesn't make much of a difference when I used it). My local supermarket, when it does stock things, cruelly taunts me by introducing a new line (ie So Good gravy) and then withdrawing it without warning a few months later

I have to say that I am always suprised by my local supermarket as they sell most things. Maybe it's because there are quite a few different nationalities in this area.

I have found something called White King which gets my daughters clothes clean, although I think it's more of a bleach (vanish never worked on her clothes anyway )

The only thing I haven't seen on sale yet is Yorkshire Puddings, good job I can make them myself

White King sounds like it might be just the thing for my other half's work shirts

No Aunt Bessie here yet - home made yorkshire puddings always taste better anyhow

I believe the wardrobe lady from Spooks washes the casts costumes in Ariel liquid detergent.

Whites look dingy very quickly I find, even add Napisan doesn't restore them

Do you tumble dry or dry on the clothes line?

Thats probably why the Napisan isnt working to its best. It works best if you wash or soak and then hang them in the sun. Have used Napisan for years and swear its the best!

But thats just my opinion

Edit: Forget anything I have typed above, just reread your post

99 per cent of the time I dry things on the clothes line - try to only use the tumble dryer when the weather is really bad (like when there was a week of rain recently). Would love to use it more but I know it's bad for the environment and guzzles electricity - but like how my clothes feel soft and warm afterwards (must get out more - replying to too many domestic issues threads )

This thread is sad, but it IS a major issue! I have been using Omo in my USELESS top loader, but find that apart from the clothes looking 100 years old after 3 washes, my 3 year old boy's tops come out as dirty as they went in! I spray with some sort of stain thing, but still not great. I tried putting that pink tub of stuff in with each wash (think it's Napisan) but to no avail. I also hate the fact that the washing doesn't smell nice, I thought it was just my machine, but obviously not!

try dynamomatic, they do one for top loaders. It is more expensive but I have found it better. Also at woolies and IGA they sell comfort fabric softner, lovely smell. they only do blue one in woolies but in every IGA i have been in they do the nice silk pink one. i get my stain remover from england because it gets everything out, curry sauce, tomato puree the lot.
