My cousin bought me my first pair before leaving to move here and i wore them all the time super comfy they went abit manky and i kept losing them in sinking sand so then when my cousin came to visit here last year she bought me my second pair (birthday) from sydney for about $100, then i lost them in a hotel room on my wedding night so then i purchased my own pair for about $90 in Airlie beach 
I love mine and wont wear any other
I will say about the $6 pair from kmart they rub on the side of your feet and not good for long walks
If it makes me a lesbian then so be it! i can think of worse things to be

Arriving a bit late to this conversation here but if anyone's still looking for Birks
- got ours sent from www.footshopping.com in Germany
- I think we ordered 5 pairs (1 for me and 4 for 'er indoors)
- with that many postage was free to OZ
- had to send mine back for another size (but only paid for the postage in one direction)
- took maybe 3 weeks to arrive but given the cost of them here it was well worth it

Birkenstocks don't fit me. I'd love to get a pair of shoes that are actually comfy.
A colleague of mine bulk buys them for her friends, but I didn't take much notice of the supplier or cost, as to me it is irrelavent.
