What else would you called Birks though? They're not 'regular' flip flops, they're a particular design with foot support. So calling them Birks is surely the quickest way to let someone know what you're after?!

Obviously if you are going into a shop to enquire if they sell them then you have to use the trade name. I just know people who announce that instead of just putting their shoes on they are putting their birkenstocks on. It drives me potty.

I think the only brand name I'd use in that context would be Birks..simply because it's shorter to say than flip-flops. I'd never say I'd going to put on my Levi's or whatever.

I bought them cos I felt like my arches were going to collapse and I'd heard they gave great support... 
I agree, the cork soles mould to the shape of your feet and you never want to wear painful "work shoes" again, the lesbian mention is news to me, there must be 500 lesbian mums at our school then.......... I will have to let them all know
. On a different note how nice is it to see blue skies in Brisvegas today, will have to get my birks on when I get home
