AQIS and wicker items
Anyone taken wicker or basketweave type items? If so, any problems with AQIS?

We had to get rid of all our wicker stuff. Customs won't allow it.

Actually we were told all cones on Xmas tree had to be removed. We thought we had took them off, but when we unpacked the tree, they were all there, cones, the lot....customs are useless:huh:
Its a risk you take - if AQIS happen to spot the wicker or whatever they may well charge you for destroying it, if they don't open that box you get away with it. |

No they were the real thing. Big ones too. We had a box full of trimmings too, which included more pine cones, still they all got through customs.
http://www.aqis.gov.au/icon32/asp/ex...eryType=Search Check under 'wicker' from UK. We bought baskets that are used indoors. Our friends were also advised that they couldn't bring wicker, by Allied Pickfords (they also moved us!) and were not 'Appy when they saw our IKEA showhouse being unpacked... |
Re: AQIS and wicker items
We packed wicker stuff...customs found it and gave us the option of either paying for it destroyed or paying for it fumigated...so we paid for it to be destroyed as it was gonna delay our already delayed container :sneaky:
When our container arrived we unpacked our stuff and there was our wicker stuff :blink: |
Re: AQIS and wicker items
I have a rattan light from Next that I love. I have looked at the list and guess it is a no then. Another thing to drop at the recycling centre!!!

Re: AQIS and wicker items
I have a gorgous moses basket and was told I'm not allowed to take it by 4 different movers. It's a real shame cos its really lovely and I hope to have more sprogs. Been trying to sell but no one will buy it!! Taking it to car boot tomorrow see if some one will snap it up there!

Re: AQIS and wicker items
We brought wicker and rattan items over. These were declared to customs and were passed without a problem.
I think it may depend on where you are shipping to. The guy who did our shipping quote said that Melbourne customs weren't as fussy as those in ports in other parts of Oz. SG |
Re: AQIS and wicker items
We had no problem with wicker items, cane furnture and other supposedly undesirable items. Just declare them. All the movers we got quotes from said no to this and that, but when I checked direct with AQIS, it was ok, providing it meets their criteria. I would have been very miffed if I had listened to all of the movers advice and got rid of all my stuff.
