Default Applying as a primary school teacher

Hello everyone!
I have a consultation to a migration specialist or somebody else who knows the process to migrate as a teacher.
My wife is applying to migrate to Australia as a primary school teacher.
She has experience of two years as primary teacher, but for the last year she was working in New Zealand as a teacher's aide.
Please, can somebody tell me if her experience as a teacher's aide can be counted as close related occupation to be able to apply as primary school teacher.
Thank you very much,

Norstar

I suppose this would depend on the visa - but I am no expert - from what I can recall the experience if under 3 years needs to be within the last year - but maybe one of the agents will know better.

Thanks Sarah for answer my thread.
My wife would have 3 years of experience if we can count the last year worked as teacher's aide (two years as primary school teacher and the last one as a teacher's aide).
But we don't know if DIMIA will accept it.
Thank you again for your help,

Norstar

I am a primary school teacher but I did not apply for the visa, my husband did and I just tag along as his wife!! All I know is I have to register with their equivalent of the GTC and then start applying I think! I think getting work out there is quite difficult but then getting a position where I live now is a bit of a battle with approx. 50 applicants per post!! Good luck with it all.

Would suggest you try immigation forum as the good migration agents usually stay on there. Someone like George Lombard or Go Matilda(Alan Collett) or JAJ.

Should be ok to apply as long as 2 years teaching was all in last 3 years, teaching aide won't count as experience. Would suggest you get a move on if she's still not teaching. Would check her qualification are able to pass skills assessment, and hopefully you'll be on your way to a 60 point occupation and a pretty straight forward application. If you need any more info (what I know which isn't a lot) pm me and I'll try n help you with initial steps

I am a primary school teacher and have applied using this route. I actually left my post as a teacher at Christmas before sending my visa application over to Oz in March and I am afraid I was told my my agents that I had to have 12 months experience out of the last 18 months.

In your opinion, she is not able to apply?
Thanks for your answer.

I don't think you can include the year as a teachers assistant.

Apparently they are very strict with what is considered a 'closely related occupation'.

Even 'lecturers' have problems relating it to teaching!

Good luck x
