Default Applying for Jobs on mycareer.com require sponsorship

I have applied for a number of IT jobs through mycareer. I am in the UK and would require a 457 visa. Obviously the applications are landing on the desks of various Sydney agencies. Any idea if I am likely to get anywhere going down this route? Anyone done this and successfully landed sponsorship and a job in Oz using this route? Cheers.

I know on mycareer.com it states as standard that all applicants must have an appropriate work visa for Australia or New Zealand however I assume some people are able to get sponsorship. Looking to hear from anyone who has and has experience of dealing with agencies in Sydney.

Sponsorship in IT in Sydney? I would say extremely unlikely. Unless you have a very very specialised skillset. Or you already work for a company that has offices in Sydney and are willing to sponsor you. Regarding the agencies IMHO alot are just harvesting CV's.

Thanks for the info. If its very unlikely i'd get sponsorship then i'd probably rather know that.

Hopefully someone will come along with better info for you but I think the days of IT sponsorship are gone. Maybe the search function on here might throw up some happier news / sponsorship stories.

How is the IT market in Sydney at present? As buoyant as people make out?

I'm not in IT but I applied for a job through mycareer and have ended up with a sponsorship deal so its not impossible. Many of the ads do state you have to be resident but not all. Have you considered working in the government sector rather than private IT. Loads of jobs on the state wesbites and some will sponsor you if you are the right applicant especially in rural areas.
Good luck.

I'd rather stay in the private sector. I emailed macquarie HR and was told they have no problem sponsoring candidates and suggested i go to Leeds or London expo to speak to one of their representatives. they said it was totally down to the recruiting manager - i did apply for a role and was knocked back pretty quickly due to there being more suitable candidates. Anyone got experience of dealing with agencies out there? Should i chase up my applications or are completely disinterested when they see you have no work permit?
