Default Applying to emigrate..can you help me

Me and my wife are looking to emigrate to Oz. We havent got the money at the moment to go via an agent, so have decided to go it alone.
Would anyone who has successfully done this be willing to guide us through the myriad of options which are ahead of us. We're going for a General Skilled Migration visa, weve got the points I think, shes a personnel officer and Im a Marketing Manager/Specialist.

But weve come up against some questions already... Id be very grateful if someone was available to run things by. Im not even sure in which order I should be processing the application.

Thanks Ian

Hi Ian, as I'm using an agent I'm not sure how much help I will be but the order is quite simple. First you get your skills assessed by the relevent body and then once you have been acepted you apply for your visa. A lot of the guys on here have done it themselves, so you've already made the first right move by joining the forum.

Welcome to the madhouse that is Australian migration. Best of Luck.

You could always get an agent just to do your skills. this is the 'key' to the whole migration process and if you bugger this part up, then you are stuffed.

hiya Ian,
I did mine myself and it went through ok.

It's correct that once you've done the pints test and seen that you should be able to get in, then the first thing to do is get assessed by the Assessing body that applies to you / wife. (Assuming you think / know you will pass the medical.)

Download and print out the booklet for skilled migration and it takes you through the process. (You need some of the pages - check list to go in with your application.)

Hope this helps
Mark

Possibly a freudian slip but on the other hand, you will a hell of a lot during the process

Hi Ian

I did the whole thing myself for my husband and I. Once you familiarise yourself, its not difficult - but - its very stressful - if I can help at all more than happy to - first off I would recommend you:-

1. Familiarise yourself with DIMIA website - www.immi.gov.au
2. Familiarise yourself with Booklet 6 (which would apply in your situation - i.e. skilled independent)
3. Download the forms relevant to your application - main form being 47sk and familiarise yourself with that.

Before applying for visa, you must pass the skills test - will need to send off your paperwork to the necessary assessing body - the SOL (skills list - which your wife's job is listed should provide you with information as to which body)

Any paperwork you send for the skills assessment must be duplicated so you have two sets of certified (would recommend 3) - one for the skills assessment and 1 for visa application itself.

Thats plenty for starters.

All the best

atticus
