Indeed. It would be nice for Australia to have a more humane approach to these things, but this definitely won't be happening with the current government. It has to be the worst Australian government in recent times (yes, including the mayhem of the Rudd/Gillard/Rudd years).

Why did you miss so many out before getting to that one? The following on-topic ones were above the one you listed:
- Axes free legal assistance for asylum seekers
- Opposes a UN resolution to conduct war crimes inquiry in Sri Lanka
- Ensures a human rights enquiry into the Manus Island detention centre is shut down and human rights lawyers are denied access to the centre

Yep. And you see how the uber-socialist Labor leader, Shorten is now saying that they have to break their links to the union movement - funny coincidence that

Anyhow, I took a quick look at Sri Lanka and had a read through this smh article. From this article it sounds complex and the government have other ideas on how to focus on the future of Sri Lanka rather than the past. 12 other voting members of the UN also ooppose the idea.

So what makes you so righteous on this topic?

Sources for what? You haven't asked me for any sources on this thread - refer to me which posts I've made on this thread that you want a source for.
I'm just trying to look at asylum seekers as fellow humans.

Anyhow, moving on, what's important is that Fuddle/Willard/Muddle are no longer steering the ship.

Violating someone's sovereign territory is usually a big deal for those who are being violated. Where are the Indonesian warships protecting their sovereign waters? Maybe they don't care.

Why would I think people smuggling is acceptable? I don't, it's appalling. But people smugglers and those seeking asylum are not the same. It's the people who risk their lives to flee the daily threat over their lives and lives of their families that need to be assisted.
Seeking asylum in Australia is legal. Arriving by boat is illegal. How exactly is it an option to see asylum in Australia if you can't get on a plane? That, to me, seems like a get out clause for the Australian government.
