Indeed. It would be nice for Australia to have a more humane approach to these things, but this definitely won't be happening with the current government. It has to be the worst Australian government in recent times (yes, including the mayhem of the Rudd/Gillard/Rudd years).

Take a look at Tracking Abbott's Wreckage.

Why did you miss so many out before getting to that one? The following on-topic ones were above the one you listed:
  • Axes free legal assistance for asylum seekers
  • Opposes a UN resolution to conduct war crimes inquiry in Sri Lanka
  • Ensures a human rights enquiry into the Manus Island detention centre is shut down and human rights lawyers are denied access to the centre
Seems a little strange in a thread about asylum seekers you missed out any related to this topic.

Yep. And you see how the uber-socialist Labor leader, Shorten is now saying that they have to break their links to the union movement - funny coincidence that

Whilst some of them on the list are non-issues, I think there are some very serious ones. But of course, it seem because there are non-issue ones you will ignore the serious ones?

Where are you sources? Pot kettle black.

Anyhow, I took a quick look at Sri Lanka and had a read through this smh article. From this article it sounds complex and the government have other ideas on how to focus on the future of Sri Lanka rather than the past. 12 other voting members of the UN also ooppose the idea.

So what makes you so righteous on this topic?

Sources for what? You haven't asked me for any sources on this thread - refer to me which posts I've made on this thread that you want a source for.

I'm just trying to look at asylum seekers as fellow humans.

This was about UN studies into past actions of Sri Lankan governments. Not asylum seekers.

Anyhow, moving on, what's important is that Fuddle/Willard/Muddle are no longer steering the ship.

Violating someone's sovereign territory is usually a big deal for those who are being violated. Where are the Indonesian warships protecting their sovereign waters? Maybe they don't care.

Seeking asylum in Australia is legal. Arriving by boat is illegal. How exactly is it an option to see asylum in Australia if you can't get on a plane? That, to me, seems like a get out clause for the Australian government.
You need to speak to some people in the Immigration Dept who hear the same story of 'persecution' time and time again, as if they are following a script. These people never have any ID with them - why not if they are genuine? The Immi Dept are so overwhelmed with applications there is no time or people to adequately assess claims, so when they first started arriving in 2008 when Rudd weakened border protection, they all got accepted as once they are in Australia and the courts get involved, it is next to impossible to actually return someone. This is well known within the refugee industry. Hence the need to close this loophole. The government have to manage the influx, find them homes, find the money to train them for jobs (btw) stats show 90 per cent of boat arrivals are still on th dole after five years) people such as yourself just get to take the moral high ground, not do any research other than get emotional, and criticise others who want an orderly refugee program where the proper checks are done and the neediest identified.
