Default AOS bond refunded

How soon after your 2 years is up does the money get refunded. Could really do with it now.

Sos - but they take their time - it may come quicker than that as our assurer had a few probs with explaining to them about the names on the bond - (duaghter dropped out at last minute) and they kept insisting she was in oz with us and she never left UK - good luck

Are you referring to the Assurance of Support Bond, or the other $100,000 one ? The AOS is usually 2 years as far as I know.

Cheers

Our AoS is due back around March 2008, which is exactly 2 years after the latest date we had to enter into the country initially.

Is it 2 years after the visa was granted. What is the actual date they go by. We activated our visas returned home and now 18 months later we are now setting up home. How does it work?

Thanks J

We got our Visa in 2005 and had to enter Australia by 28th February 2006 at the latest to validate. Our AoS is due back on the 1st March 2008 so I assume that it is linked to the final validation date.

AoS Assessments and AoS Period
On 1 July 2004, Centrelink assumed responsibility for the assessment of AoS applications, including bond lodgement.
See: www.centrelink.gov.au > Individuals > Assurance of Support

An AoS bond is held for the duration of the AoS period.

For applicants applying for a permanent Contributory Parent visa, the AoS period runs for 10 years from:

the date you arrived in Australia (if you applied from outside Australia)
or
the date you were granted a permanent visa (if you applied from within Australia).
For applicants of all other visas, the AoS period is 2 years from:

the date you arrived in Australia (if you applied from outside of Australia)
or
the date you were granted a visa (if you applied from within Australia).
Release of bond
After 1 July 2004 - AoS cases accepted by Centrelink
For all AoS cases accepted by Centrelink, only Centrelink can authorise release of the bond. Release of the bond will depend upon whether the visa holder (the assuree) has claimed any recoverable Centrelink payments during the life of the AoS. After the AoS period has expired, the assurer should ask the nearest Centrelink office to release the bond money (less any claims by Centrelink).

Before 1 July 2004 - AoS cases accepted by the department
For all AoS cases accepted by the department, a bond may be released by the department before the AoS period begins. This only applies if the person for whom the bond was paid:

does not travel to Australia before cancellation or expiry of the visa
withdraws their visa application
is not accepted for permanent entry to, or stay in, Australia
or
dies before the AoS comes into effect.
Important: In all other circumstances, if the AoS period has already begun, only Centrelink can authorise the bond release.

I just came across this in an old email. We have just got our bond back. We acitivated our visas 1 month after getting them (March 05) We have only just moved out (March 07) but my sis in law got back the bond that she had to put up for us. I just gave her the money in begining so she wouldn't be out of pocket. Guess we can now buy our tv!!!
