Default ANZ New accounts

Hi There

For those of you who have opened an ANZ account while abroad then activated upon arrival in Aus... Does ANZ issue you with cards as soon as the account is activated ie, on your first visit to the branch, or are they posted out afterwards? If you had to wait for your cards, how did you pay for things in the interim? We'll be wanting to buy fridge, washer, tv etc in our first two weeks and am wondering if we'll have to walk about with a big wedge of cash in our pockets!

Cheers

AJW

My card came in the post 4 days after I activated the account. Until it came I just popped into a branch and withdrew what I needed to.

Some of the shops let me put down a little deposit and pay the balance before delivery was due, and others I could pay on delivery.

It's also worth noting that unless you ask the bank you'll only be allowed to use your card for $1000 a day. They should up this limit if you ask them.

Hi
We recieved our cards in a few days also, although I do believe ANZ sometimes has the cards ready in the bank, but not in our case. It was all really straight forward and until they came we just used UK Visa card.

our anz branch gave us a temporary card to use for eftpos transactions and atm machines and then the ones with our names on arrived a week or so later.

ANZ may automatically charge you the $5 p/month account fee for the period between opening in the UK account and verification in Aus.

Our charges ($20) were refunded when queried.......

Ours took 3 days to come after we spent a torid hour in the Brisbane City branch trying to get the paperwork finalised, even then the cards only worked at a few places, we needed replacements which took a week. I'm in the process of setting up a credit union account so we can ditch ANZ, they have been seriously dissapointing......
