Well, preferably everything.
Can't understand why the entire world has to draw to a close. Bad enough for one day, but I couldn't even get petrol today at Sainsburys - It's only a bank holiday!
Tsshhkk.

Realistically though, somewhere to grab food when we burn the turkey would be good

everyone deserves a day off. i am the other way I can't see why grown adults can't manage without a bloody shop for 1 or 2 days.

This is true, everyone deserves a day off, although when I am stuck in rush hour traffic week in week out I sometimes wish people would take their day off then
I can manage without shops to an extent, but realistically it isn't just one or two days, shops around here have been a no-go zone for a week now due to the surges of crowds.
And I'm not a scrooge, honest!

if you are organised you shouldn't need to go near a shop. I did my big grocery shop on Sat 22nd December and although its only 27th now I won't need to set foot in a shop for another few days.

I'm not organised
Although having said that we managed to get enough bits and pieces early last week to see us through, and relied on my parents for the rest!
Don't have any intention of going shopping until everyone gets back to work, I've built up some reserves to survive from if the worst comes to the worst *pats oversize belly*.

I totally agree that shops should be closed on christmas day.... it is ONE day ffs....

I am particularly interested in this coz I'm a nurse and we are 24/7/ 365/6 and it is HIDEOUS having to work on public holidays/ weekends/ unsocial hours... somew times it just rips your heart out, I wouldn't want it to become the 'norm' simply because society has become so selfish or individuals are so disoragnised that they can't plan a day in advance...

sorry, rant over.... push my buttons again next year....

I would have thought that in your profession you'd understand the 'not being closed' thing... people don't stop being sick/frail/vulnerable on christmas day, so it's one of many professions that doesn't draw to a close for public holidays.

Consumer culture gone mad NB ... how else would people know if the F'Koff Size Plasma they have been keeping an eye on hasn't dropped in price?

I think there's a difference between someone falling ill on a Public Holiday and someone wanting a tin of beans. From my reading of this

Eddie meant the shops not the hospitals. No one actually organises that they break their leg on christmas day

I know that this medium is open to mis interpretation, but honestly That comment felt a just a tiny bit patronising.....

I have lived this for many years thank you, and my point is theat I DONT WANT it to become the NORM for anyone for whom it is NOT ESSENTIAL.

and just becasue it is part of deal, doesn't mean that you want to work EVERY christmas or new year... I got Christmas day off this year, but am working boxing, new years eve AND day.... welcome to my world
