Anyone visited Tanzania?
I will post on the Africa forum, but, just wondered if anyone has been to Tanzania? I am starting a new job, FIFO from Perth so would be keen on any tips.

I know of someone who lived there for a year or so. I can ask her for some tips if you like?

We went in 1979 It was a very poor country. I remember having either paw-paw or carrots or both practically every meal, with the odd bit of zebra or gnu. Lots of lions. We stayed in the lodge in Ngorogoro crater and a local escorted us back from the dining room to our hut as it was dangerous after dark. He was armed with a bow and arrow.
Good luck - it's much better than beoing sent to some other African countries.

Yes we went there a few years ago on safari, I don't think I have any particular tips that would help anyone going to live there though.

Went there in 1995.
I remember the mozzie net over the bed had a hole in it that an elephant could have climbed through!
I also remember the resident monkey population reaching through the open windows and taking anything that they took a fancy to - including wallets (especially wallets), cameras, hats, clothing and food. The only thing they got from me was an international artists magazine I left on the table, so I like to think there is a very artistic monkey out there these days.
The suspicious person might believe that they were trained
So in conclusion if you are moving to Tanzania get a good mozzie net and treat every monkey with suspicion, it is advice like this that makes BE great....

I was there 50 years ago as a toddler, so I can't really help, except to say really DON'T trust the monkey- I was alseep in my basket/crib, and a big one came in and grabbed the basket. Luckily I fell out and mother saw what was happening so got to me before the thing could grab me. The basket was taken up a tree and we never did get it back. Then there was the snake in the bedroom........

(Hard to write the yodel!)
Explains my lifelong hatred of monkeys though. Don't know why anyone finds them cute. Gorillas and orang-utans though are gorgeous.

Yep, I was there on my travels through Africa. Serengetti and the crater were awesome. Dar el Salem was a bit rough but its the gateway to Zanzibar island, an absolute must not miss bit of paradise.
